Ethos
Treatments are centered on treating the person on an individual basis. Each person has their own unique experiences and adaptations to life, and as such need an individualized approach to healing. The means for an effective treatment comes about through seeing the person in light of who they are. The beauty and effectiveness of Chinese Medicine and by extension of acupuncture is that the body, just like nature, has observable changes that occur based on cause and effect. There will always be an effect, it's just a matter of knowing what signs to look for and what they signify. With thousands of years of keen observation Chinese Medicine was developed as a system that sees the signs and has mapped out a way of treating them. Thus treatments focus both on correcting the root of the symptoms as well as the symptoms themselves through a greater understanding for the way that we function through an inclusive and understanding lens.
Protocols
Tui-Na
Chinese medicinal bodywork that makes use of manipulating the meridians and acupuncture points through pressure as opposed to needles. I incorporate active and passive stretching, range-of-motion body movements, and various massage techniques applying static and dynamic pressure to the soft tissue including fascia and musculature.
Moxibustion
Moxa in the form of a moxa stick, which resembles a cigar. It is made from a plant called mugwort. the 'cigar' is lit and hovered above a chosen area or acupuncture point to warm and energize particular meridians. It is great at dispelling any cold or deficient areas of the body.
Cupping
The use of specilized glass cups that are caused to suction onto chosen muscles of the body. By creating a vacuum in the cup stagnant blood is brought to the skin surface and allowed to vent and thus increase circulation and decrease bodyaches and pain. This gives rise to the red or purple circles that are evident after a cupping session. It can be likened to a very deep 'massage' and can be very effective.
